Health tips: Getting long sleep in the afternoon can be dangerous for health, research reveals

Most people believe that there is no harm in sleeping in the afternoon, but a recent research has revealed that sleeping for more than an hour during this time increases the risk of heart disease. And it also increases the chances of death. This research, published in ESC Congress 2020 The Digital Experience, described the relationship between taking a nap in the afternoon and the risk of heart disease and death.

In this analysis, a total of 3,13,651 participants were included in more than 20 studies, of which some 39 percent slept in the afternoon.

Dr. Zhe Pan, author of research at Guangzhou University in China, said, “Daytime gold is common all over the world and is generally considered to be better for health.”

He added, “It is generally understood that taking a nap improves working capacity and also counteracts the pitfalls of sleep deprivation. Both of these ideas have been challenged in our research. ”

Research has found that sleeping for more than 60 minutes increases the risk of heart disease and death by 30 per cent compared to those who do not sleep. If we talk about sleeping at night, then this danger is more in those who sleep more than six hours every night.

However, sleeping for less than 60 minutes in the afternoon does not risk heart disease. Dr. Pan says, “The results show that sleeping for 30 to 45 minutes improves the health of the hearts of those who are unable to get enough sleep at night.”
